15 students from our studio will attend the National Guild of Piano Teachers audiitons this Saturday, May 14. Michelle Muir, Renee Muir, Jack Mottram, Scarlett Blum, Ana-Meeka Blum, Kerry Manuel, Clair Mulcahy, Liam Mulcahy, Daniel Gealow, Rachel Bucher, Catherine Vasilenko,Melham Antar, Dianne Sforza, Henry Hadley and Sophie DaSilveira. There is an enormous amount of work that goes into preparing for this type of audition and I am so very proud of each and every one of these students even before they attend.. Students prepare anywhere from 2-15 pieces at thieir specific level along with the appropiate scales and cadneces for each piece. In addition they may also work on musicianship phases such as sight reading, ear training, improvisation, transposition, etc. All of these skills are presented by memory to a judge. The students received a detailed "report card" with suggestions for improvement as well as a positive critique. As a presenting teacher and member of the guild, I also receive a "report card" detailing on the progress of my students and results of my teaching. ALthough this goal is a lot of work, the rewards are great and it has a positive impact of the student's progress.
